Dedicated IT System for Breeding and Studbook Management

We are proud to announce the finalization of an advanced project in the field of custom software development.

Commissioned by a foreign client, we designed and implemented a comprehensive IT system aimed at full digitization of breeding processes.

The solution supports two prestigious horse breeds: Purebred Arabian and Thoroughbred, serving as a modern tool for population management at the national level.

Central Database and Precise Identification

The web application we delivered is not just a digital register but an advanced data ecosystem.

The system enables precise animal registration, taking into account key identification parameters such as unique UELN, microchip, DNA, and detailed phenotypic traits.

A distinguishing feature of this database system is the extensive genealogy module.

The application stores and visualizes complete pedigree trees, requiring users to enter data not only for parents but also for grandparents on both the sire’s and dam’s sides.

Thanks to this, studbook managers can be certain of the breed purity and origin of each individual.

Moreover, the system automatically generates entry numbers in the respective studbooks, eliminating the risk of errors and duplication.

Innovative Workflow: System Integration and DNA Verification

As a company offering advanced programming services, we prioritized data security.

A key element of the implementation is a unique verification model that integrates fieldwork with genetic testing.

The process we designed enforces a strict acceptance path (workflow):

  1. Field Verification: A field worker enters horse marking data.
  2. Integration with Laboratory: The system automatically sends a request for genotype testing. This is a critical control point – without digital confirmation of DNA sample compliance, the registration process is halted.
  3. Validation by Controller: Only after a positive result from the laboratory does the data reach the Controller. Only they have system permissions for the final approval of the studbook entry.

Such an operating model guarantees the highest data credibility, which is crucial in professional breeding.

Herd Management and Stallion Handling

The system has been equipped with dedicated modules supporting the work of breeding stations. The system enables separate management of the stallion population.

The most important functionality we implemented in this area is the ability to view the full breeding history and instantly issue covering certificates directly from a given sire’s card.

Additionally, the system offers a feature to track the history of owners and breeders. Thanks to this solution, users can generate a “History” PDF document, which automatically aggregates all purchase and sale transactions, creating a chronological record of ownership changes for a given entity.

Advanced Analytics and Reporting

The implemented IT solution offers powerful analytical tools. The reporting module allows for generating detailed reports in PDF format, which is an invaluable aid in population management.

Users can filter data according to complex business criteria, such as:

  • Horses born in the country vs. horses imported in a given year.
  • Mare statistics: barren, those that miscarried, or covered for the first time.
  • Registries regarding breeders, laboratory.

Automation of Documentation and Studbooks

One of the main goals of the project was office process automation.

The system significantly relieves administration by generating key documents in PDF format with a single click: passports, 5-generation pedigrees, or export certificates.

The culmination of functionality is the Studbook generator. It is an advanced reporting mechanism where the user defines only the year range.

The system autonomously processes thousands of records, creating formatted publications containing lists of offspring, stallions, broodmares, and migration statistics.

Dedicated Project Team

Behind the success of this implementation stands our interdisciplinary team of experts, who took care of every aspect of realization – from requirement analysis, through development, to quality testing.

The team included:

  • Project Manager
  • Backend Developer
  • Full-stack Developer
  • Mobile Developer
  • Tester

Technologies Used in the Project

The system was built based on a modern and proven technology stack, guaranteeing performance and data security:

  • Java and Spring Framework – form the foundation of the backend, enabling the creation of a stable API and implementation of complex business logic, including DNA validation and studbook generation.
  • Hibernate – is responsible for the data access layer (ORM), allowing efficient management of complex genealogical relationships and horse ownership history.
  • Vue.js – served to build a responsive interface (Frontend), which ensures smooth handling of dynamic forms and interactive visualization of pedigree trees.
  • AWS (Amazon Web Services) – the cloud in which the entire infrastructure is hosted guarantees high system availability, resource scalability, and secure storage of thousands of generated PDF documents.
