Continuing IT System Support for the OTOP Bird Monitoring Project

Today, we are starting another project for the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (OTOP).

On behalf of the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection (GIOŚ), OTOP has commissioned us to carry out a new, extensive project as part of the bird monitoring initiative, focusing on Natura 2000 special protection areas for the years 2023-2025.

We have been entrusted with providing technical support and implementing modifications to the IT system available at monitoringptakow.gios.gov.pl, including the database, Workflow module, and Map Portal.

Our Scope of Work on this Dedicated System

Our work on this complex dedicated system is divided into several key areas:

Web System Support and Modifications

  • We will be developing information about the programs conducted by GIOŚ, generating forms for observers, and publishing the results of analyses.
  • We will introduce modifications to improve the functionality and accessibility of the web system.
  • The website will be optimized for Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, and it will comply with current legal requirements for public administration IT systems.

Database Development and Creating the Map Portal

  • We will handle the update, maintenance, redesign, and expansion of the database to improve its performance.
  • We will maintain and modify the Workflow module for collecting data from fieldwork and supporting the observation network.
  • The creating, redesign, and expansion of the map portal will include updating the graphical interface, implementing cascading filters, exporting charts, and creating additional layers accessible upon login.

Key Project Requirements (ITIL and INSPIRE Directive)

The continuity service for the system includes operational tasks that ensure its uninterrupted, reliable, and secure operation. These tasks are carried out based on processes and functions aligned with the ITIL framework.

All changes to the IT components must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the INSPIRE directive and its implementing regulations, as well as in line with the solutions developed by the Contracting Authority for the State Environmental Monitoring system.

Our Team and Technologies Used

Due to the broad scope of the contract, we are assigning a larger team for its execution, consisting of:

  • Project Manager,
  • Team Leader,
  • Several backend and frontend developers,
  • Analyst,
  • Database Specialist.

The main technologies used for this project include:

  • Programming in Java (including Spring and Hibernate)
  • JSP
  • JavaScript (including Angular)
