How We Built the Green Election Compass a Dedicated System for WWF

We are proud to announce we created the Voting Guide for WWF, a web application designed to help citizens identify which political party aligns most closely with their views on ecology and environmental issues.

Who is WWF?

WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the protection of endangered species and the conservation of valuable natural habitats around the world.

The organization is headquartered in Switzerland, with national branches in over 150 countries, including WWF Poland. In Poland, WWF’s efforts focus on the protection of rivers, forests, and endangered species (known as umbrella species), such as wolves, lynxes, bears, and Baltic seals and porpoises. The foundation also undertakes initiatives to combat animal smuggling and the illegal trade of endangered species.

Creating the “Green Election Compass” Web Application

The Green Election Compass is a comparison tool that enables citizens to see which politician or party aligns with their views on environmental issues. Users first complete a comprehensive survey about their opinions on various environmental topics. Based on their responses, they receive a list showing how closely their views match with the participating political parties in the election.

The user also has the opportunity to review specific proposals and opinions of politicians on each question in the survey. This allows for a deeper understanding of where each party stands on various environmental issues.

The process of creating this dedicated IT system was divided into the following stages:

  • setting up the application’s framework on the server,
  • creating database structures,
  • developing models and basic controllers within the application,
  • implementing a mechanism for reading and transforming survey data,
  • creating a system for collecting and storing user data,
  • building a comparison and ranking mechanism,
  • designing templates for various subpages and dynamically populating them with content,
  • styling the templates,
  • migrating the application to the target server.

Our Summary of the WWF Collaboration

We are proud to have been part of such a noble project. The idea of environmental and climate protection is extremely important to us, and we sincerely hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with WWF again in the future!
